Whether you're 18 and ready to move out, or packing your bags and moving across the world to study abroad - living away from home doesn't have to be as difficult as you may think. Even though there will be some hard moments, working through them makes you a stronger and more independent person.

A lot of students plan to first live on their own when beginning post-secondary education. At John Casablancas Institute we offer education in Fashion, Body Spa, Hair and Makeup - and have students from all over the world enrolled in our programs. We offer guidance to those moving here to study as they adjust to a new city and living environment.

Sometimes the hardest part is simply asking for help. Use the resources available to you in your school and in your city. Talk to your student service representatives, your advisors, even your instructors if you have any questions at all.

Change can be overwhelming, especially while you are away from your family and friends, however there are many ways to adjust to living away from home. When you begin post-secondary school, you will meet a ton of new people. We see friendships between students that last a lifetime, so reach out to your peers! Your classmates may be going through a similar experience and can be a great support network as you all adjust to living more independently.

At JCI, our international students have made tons of connections that will help them in their chosen career path. We always encourage students to network with those around them! Not only will you build valuable communication skills, but you will begin to feel more comfortable meeting new people.

It's common to feel homesick and stressed out from time to time, but keeping yourself proactive and social will help you find a new routine in no time! Join a new club on campus or participate in an extracurricular activity - these are great ways to make new friends and avoid sitting at home feeling lonely.
